2020 Small Business Holiday Shopping - The Mega List

'Tis the season of holiday shopping. This year, things look a little different, and for small business owners, that's good news.

If there is one good thing we can say about the COVID-19 pandemic, it's that more light has been shed on the challenges that small businesses face on a day-to-day basis when competing with big names like Amazon or Target. The reality is that, as much as we'd love to give it, we just can't afford free overnight shipping or rolling 60% off sales. In years past, this would put us at a disadvantage during our customers' holiday budget planning.

This year, that's not the case.

Despite COVID, 86% of consumers plan to shop small businesses during the holidays this year. Consumers want to support the people that have been affected the most by the pandemic, and they want to see those businesses succeed. That means your storefront, whether brick-and-mortar or digital, is going to get a little extra love over the coming weeks.

So, how can you take advantage of this shift in this year's holiday shopping habits? Here's a quick to-do list. Take or leave what makes the most sense for your business and your target audience.

  • Send out an email campaign. Get over the fears that have been keeping you from appearing in your audience's inbox. And, if making a mistake is your biggest fear, check out our list of email 911 tips.

  • Get social. Share your content on social media and encourage others to share it, too. Avoid pushing a sale with each and every post, though - your content should be something that your audience wants to engage with.   • Get on the list. Take a peek around to see what lists you can get your business's name on. Perhaps your local small business association or an industry niche group has a list of ongoing small businesses to support.
